Great opportunity for an experienced Geophysicist with background in marine survey, specifically high resolution UXO surveys, to join an established and successful team at 6 Alpha. The individual should have intimate knowledge of geophysical survey methods, primarily magnetics, (marine, aerial or terrestrial), and understanding of complementary marine acoustic, (MBES, SSS, SBP), and electromagnetic survey methodologies.You will be working within the Marine Consultancy business line, working closely with the Chief Geophysicist and supporting the wider geophysics team, acting as technical lead on projects and engaging with Clients on an as-needed basis, to support the survey and sign-off process for UXO risk mitigation.
The role will be hybrid – with the option to be mostly remote-based, but with infrequent contact time at appropriate intervals dependant on workload and team requirements at our offices in Woolpit, Bury St. Edmunds.
Responsibilities
- To represent the business as a Geophysicist to the Client, alongside the Chief Geophysicist and the Senior Management Team, from an office or remote location, and occasionally on-site setting;
- To work closely with the Chief Geophysicist to supervise, mentor and motivate the team of Geophysicists;
- To QC and analyise land, aerial and marine survey data for potential UXO (pUXO) determination;
- To assist in activity and project-specific UXO risk-management assessments, including creating and critiquing survey specifications, results reports and offshore installation methodologies;
- To produce and QC georeferenced digital deliverables and charts for high quality reports, sign-off certificates and to support target investigation operations;
- To QC and ensure all offshore reports are produced to the highest standard incorporating Company ethos regarding technical accuracy and presentation.
Qualifications
Preferred- Three or more years industry experience in geophysical data collection, processing and interpretation focussed primarily on magnetics, but also knowledge of marine-based acoustic or electromagnetic data collection techniques;
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geophysics or related field;
- Experience with geophysical processing and interpretation packages including Oasis montaj and ArcMap/QGIS packages.
Beneficial
- Experience with other complementary geophysical processing packages for the including Chesapeake Sonarwiz, IHS Markit Kingdom and CARIS/QINSy;
- Knowledge of UXO risk-management, ALARP sign-off procedures, target investigation and reporting.

Candidates are required to have had some experience in this sector.
The appointee will not only support the Land Operations Manager but also the Director of Land Operations in the day-to-day running of a specialist risk management contracting business. Excellent communication and organisational skills are necessary whether by email, telephone or face-to-face.
The Deputy Operations Manager will work as a part of a small team but must also have the ability to work independently at times, managing their own workload and ensuring that deadlines are met.
The role is demanding, dynamic and fast moving so the ideal candidate will have the ability to work to strict deadlines while learning and assimilating amongst other things, company specific, technical survey information.
The role is primarily office based with hybrid working opportunities, but there may also be a requirement for travel and on-site work from time-to-time.

Outline Responsibilities
To assist with the preparation, delivery and execution of on-site survey and investigation operations including:
- Responding to and acting upon short-notice Client enquiries, typically received via telephone or email;
- Assit to draft, record, file, review and disseminate technical and commercial proposals;
- Help to prepare, coordinate, organise, monitor and/or manage and implement the delivery of all elements of on-site risk management survey services including:
- Pre Mobilisiation; the proactive dentification, timely preparation, production and delivery of templated pre-mobilisation/pre-delivery documentation e.g. Toolbox Briefs (TBB), Emergency Response Plans (ERP), Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS);
- Resourcing; the Identification and allocation of necessary internal and external resources (people, equipment, vehicles, logistics), identifying and reporting shortfalls or new/additional requirements to get our teams’ on site, on time with the right equipment;
- Demobilisation; the timely preparation, production and delivery of post-mobilisation/post-delivery documentation e.g. reports and records including basic financial analysis;

- In the construction/civil engineering industry in general;
- The ability to work within a dynamic, fast paced commercial environment as part of a small team;
- Demonstrate confidence and clarity in dealing with employees and Clients;
